As I listened back on 80s electro songs, stuff like Blue Monday, I always wanted more of the nasty simple basslines but they always had to spoil the song with melody and choruses. Thankfully some producers have been reading my mind because that's what I got for Christmas this year.

I never realized how much dirty bass was in those old synthpop tunes until I rediscovered Orbital Bebop which has a downright gutter-level intro but quickly turns to "we need to sell records and get this played on the radio".

The thing that sucks about pop music is that they kill perfectly good genres by overplaying. Instead of squeezing every little bit of creativity from it, they all do the same thing splitting hairs and trying to chase the dollars and everybody gets sick of even the good stuff. Until 20 years later.
