I don't have a really good reason why I got into radio in the first place. Probably had to do with my friend and I and how excited we got when we could tune in 88.9fm KUCI on Fridays and listen to some new house or whatever mixes were played that night on Riders of the Plastic Groove.
I was certain that I had to actually be a UCI student to get in so I mentally prepared myself for a tough road ahead. Community college courses with a transfer to UCI when I had my credits lined up. Then I found out anybody could get a show just by passing a training course, nothing this cool had ever existed before or since in Orange County, CA.
When I figured out that being a dj at KUCI was something people could do (and by people I mean me) I never looked back. Doing a show at 3am seemed a small price to pay. Getting into management at the station seemed the best way to get a prime slot, so I did that, too.
The dj who make this mix, Keith Rocka was a cool guy that not only was a DJ, he and his wife made custom-ish (I think) dolls that they sold in Japan, very cute stuff (expensive, too). Haven't heard from him since, but his appearance on the show was a highlight for certain.
